Year-End Update
Published on December 6, 2022 by Vicky Tamaru

Hello buildJUSTLY supporters!  It's been a busy year.

We've completed more than a year and a half of monthly Community Connections events where we've connected individuals from underrepresented communities from around the country (and US Territories) to builders of technologies that governments, companies and individuals around the globe use every single day.

Key findings from the first phase of our technology study of Hispanic Small Business Owners in Georgia were presented to members of the press, US policy makers, academics and heads of industry at Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia event.  Meanwhile, we've continued our qualitative investigations in both English and Spanish while simultaneously partnering up with the Sustainable Progress and Equality Collective in building an Open-Source app that will enable individuals to collect, view, and sell their own device data so that governments, organizations and technology companies can better understand and act on addressing the digital gap.

We've made the presentation of our study public if you're interested in our key findings and research methods.

In addition, we're elated that our partnership with PCs for People continues to grow.  Our amazing volunteer team has been looking to understand how we can help their low-income customers make use of their PCs to better participate in the modern economy because as the data shows that households that are more tech engaged have higher incomes.

And as we dig deeper, we see that PC style devices (vs tablets or mobile phones) multiply household income.

And if that's not enough, we've already have 6 enthusiastic volunteers for our Inclusive Business planning committee where we'll be collecting and publishing stories from various industries and roles--the good, the bad and the ugly.

And just so that you don't think we planning on resting on our laurels as soon as 2023 rolls around, in February I'll be a panelist for the "Demonstrating Impact: Strategies and Methods for Evaluating Programs" session at the National Digital Inclusion Alliance Net Inclusion 2023 conference in San Antonio.

We'd be happy to share with you more details of our past work and our upcoming plans.   And of course, we're always looking for help to spread the word & build our programs and products so if you've got ideas to share, find a time.  My online calendar is always up-to-date http://calendly.com/vickyt

Happy Holidays and here's to an amazing 2023!

And since our amazing partners, board members and volunteers are located all around North America, here's a rare glimpse of a few of us in one room together--Andrea from PCs for People, Rainy data volunteer extraordinaire, and Chewy and me.
