Magnificent and Beautiful People,

Today marks the second anniversary of the Chicagoland Food Sovereignty Coalition (CFSC)! Can we take a moment to celebrate? 

Thank you for all of the radical love, intentionality, work, play, kindness, abundance and joy that we continue to foster and share across Chicagoland. Thank you for dreaming of a world where we care for each other and make sure we all have what we need. Thank you for the willingness to have difficult conversations and look at ourselves with candor and eye towards refinement. 

It is humbling to try to quantify the magnitude of solidarity and camaraderie that this coalition has shared across our communities over the past two years, both in tangible and intangible ways. Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to express copious amounts of gratitude and love to each and every one of you and all the comrades, allies and other folx who have made collective care a priority in our communities. 

We spoke on Monday about some of our challenges in addition to celebrating two years of the coalition. We echoed our commitment to our core mission of cultivating a local community based food system rooted in food sovereignty, autonomy and equity and dismantling the dominant systems that depend on inequity to exist. We also acknowledged that the coalition still is working to decentralize the power that we see in our organizing spaces and allow for more of our neighbors to have autonomy in how they participate in food sovereignty work.

As we continue to hold space for these conversations, how do we continue to answer some of our bigger questions like: What does food sovereignty mean for all? How do we get out of the way of those who are most often marginalized while working in solidarity to dismantle and disrupt the dominant and oppressive systems that ignore the needs of our people? These are just some of the big questions we are still wrestling with.
