Quando chegava aquele dia, nós andávamos como pardais à solta à volta da casa do forno.
"- Já está? - Falta muito? - Eu quero a minha broa com chouriço! - Para mim, é sem nada."

E enquanto brincávamos na rua, o ar ia-se enchendo do maravilhoso odor da lenha a queimar e, lentamente, começava a chegar-nos o perfume do pão acabado de cozer.

Assim que percebíamos que o iam tirar do forno, corríamos para junto delas, das mães, das tias, das avós, das primas. O forno abria-se e ficávamos de olhos arregalados a ver as pás a saírem com broas e pães fumegantes!

Há memórias que todas as infâncias deviam poder guardar.  O forno trazia vida à terra  e unia a comunidade. Estas são algumas das razões para querermos construir um forno comunitário, para nutrir esse espírito de entreajuda que nasce â volta do pão e do fogo.

É também uma forma de aproveitarmos parte das podas que são geradas na nossa comunidade. No outono e no inverno apostaremos no uso do forno a lenha. Na primavera e no verão apostaremos no forno solar.

When that day came, we'd run around the oven like sparrows.
‘- Is it done? - How much longer? - I want my bread with chorizo! - For me, I want it with nothing.’

And while we played in the street, the air was filled with the wonderful smell of burning wood and slowly the scent of freshly baked bread began to reach us.

As soon as we realised they were going to take it out of the oven, we would run to them, to our mothers, aunts, grandmothers and cousins. The oven would open and we'd watch wide-eyed as the shovels came out with steaming loaves of bread! 

There are memories that every childhood should be able to cherish.  The oven brought life to the land and brought the community together. These are some of the reasons why we want to build a community oven, to nurture that spirit of mutual help that arises around bread and fire.

It's also a way of utilising some of the prunings that are generated in our community. In the autumn and winter we'll use the wood oven. In spring and summer we'll be using a solar oven.
