About

We are Community Care Tucson!

A youth/BIPOC/LGBTQ+ organized group that has been providing resources and support to unsheltered folks and others in need since 2020. Here's why we do what we do:
  • Tucson is in the middle of a housing crisis that gets worse daily, with rents and evictions skyrocketing and people struggling to find shelter and basic needs. Not only is the city not ensuring basic human rights for its residents, it’s actively making it harder on them by shutting off water, locking bathrooms, and conducting police sweeps of public spaces. CCT and other groups like it are doing everything we can to mitigate this crisis.
  • As a mutual aid group, we serve a unique purpose — we are a peer-to-peer collective that treats our fellow community members with dignity and respect, and builds relationships over time to connect folks to the support they need. We take care of our people!
  • We are focused not just on providing immediate aid — we call out systemic failures and demand basic human rights for all Tucsonans, by engaging with other organizing groups, our thousands of social media followers, and city leaders.
  • We view this work as part of a collective effort toward a better world. We challenge norms of property ownership, reaffirm that everyone is entitled to basic rights and security, and provide care and resources where government and business have fallen short.
  • Finally, we witness and value the impact on individual lives and our community, and the connections and friendships made.
Our main activities are currently distributing water, gatorade, food, clothing, hygiene and first aid products to folks once a week in Armory Park. We connect people with other resources such as medical care, employment, shelter, furniture, and transportation. We also inform the public about people in need and upcoming actions and organizing events via social media. We are expanding our fundraising for a few reasons:
  • The donations that came in during the height of the pandemic have slowed, and we need to periodically replenish our general fund, which we use mostly to purchase food and drinks to give out.
  • We want to expand what we can offer to folks based on needs they’ve been sharing with us: hygiene products, medical and first aid, clothing and blankets, backpacks, etc.
  • Because we have a growing group of volunteers, with enough resources we could expand to a second day a week in the park!
We hope you will consider donating money or goods, or joining us in the park sometime. Thank you!!!!

*** Please note, since we are an unincorporated collective, donations are NOT tax deductible. ***
