Comrade Coop's Future
Published on December 20, 2023 by spencer phillip
Hey everyone -
We've recently put a pause on all donations for this work. Over the years, Comrade has existed in boom and busts cycles, with capacity and energy for the project changing accordingly. We've recently come out of a 6-ish month long slump where cooks and distros were sporadic.
In a recent meeting for members that were still interested in being part of the project, we decided that the best way to proceed would be to close down the Comrade Coop infrastructure (Open Collective, Social Media, Discord, etc.) and merge with the revolutionary socialist collective in Denver, Little Read Books.
We think this move will be a net positive for both the work that both organizations do. While there appears to be an unending supply of Denverites interested in cooking for the unhoused, there has always been less enthusiasm for doing the not-very-attractive work of stuff like responding to emails, making social media posts, and logistically planning when and where the cooks will happen. By merging with Little Read Books and leveraging their existing administrative infrastructure, we hope to be able to build capacity and energy in a long-term, sustainable fashion.
We plan on taking a small amount of donations over to Little Read Books in order to support the ongoing work of Comrade Coop, but most will be distributed to organizations in Denver already doing unhoused-support.
All the best,
CC
