Partnering with the National Association for Public Defense for "Gideon's 60th" nationwide celebrationcelebration
Published on July 28, 2022 by Stephen Saloom

Concerts for Indigent Defense will now officially be part of the National Association for Public Defense's nationwide "Gideon's 60th" anniversary celebrations.  As such, we are now collaborating with NAPD's 16,000 local members (and defender offices), to help them connect with interested local musicians to present local Concerts for Indigent Defense across the country on March 18, 2023.  (That is the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Gideon v. Wainwright, which established the constitutional right to counsel.)

Our publicity for these local concerts - and the human stories and key data related to the importance of this constitutional right - will create grassroots energy and public demand for improving governments' support for this widely neglected constitutional right, in the specific jurisdictions of each concert, and as aggregated for nationwide attention.

We are extremely excited to partner with NAPD, and will soon begin reaching out to our colleagues at other national and state public defense and criminal justice reform organizations across the country.

We know from past demonstration projects that the Concerts for Indigent Defense  platform can be an amazing catalyst for positive publicity and potential reform.  This major partnership - along with our fiscal sponsorship from Open Collective - are already proving to be keys to catalyzing our history of growing potential into demand for increased support for the constitutional right to counsel across the country.

If you would like to support this effort financially, please click on the "contribute" link to do so at whatever level would work for you.  All contributions are valuable!  If you'd just like to learn more or perhaps even help with this project, please email [email protected] and I'll be glad to connect with you...

Many thanks!
