October update
Published on November 7, 2023 by Marta Lomza

What have we been up to in October?
In October, we had three great events in the park. The sun shone on our first monthly nature walk with Nick, a local bird and nature expert. We spotted several different species of birds, learnt why the cormorants dry their wings, and had a great time using the binoculars Nick provided.
Some of you may have joined the buzzing work party in the orchard: some 15 volunteers came along, did lots of work and enjoyed a sociable tea at the end. We also had a community brunch in the pavilion in the park, in partnership with the Oxford Food Surplus Cafe and the Oxford Food Hub. Part of the Oxfordshire Pumpkin Festival, we cooked a whopper of a pumpkin which weighed about 30kg! Kindly donated by a local allotment holder, it fed about 70 people, having been turned into some tasty coconut & squash soup, spiced roasted chunks, and roasted seeds. We also enjoyed pumpkin-themed activities with Tenika, making the lovely decorations you can see in the photo above. Read on to find our more about what we have planned for November.
On the administration side, we will soon be publicising a membership offer so stay tuned. The best way to keep in touch is to follow us on our Facebook and Instagram account, as well as checking the website.
Our ultimate goal remains to take on the lease of the greenhouses and turn them into a community hub. While the complex administrative processes are rumbling along in the background, it’s really heartening to see how many people turn up to our pop-up events, celebrating nature, wellbeing, and the power of community action. We’re always on the lookout for more volunteers so if you’re interested, fill out the form below and we’ll get in touch.
