Some unfortunate news
Published on February 3, 2026 by fyrfli
It is with significant regret that I write this update today. If any of you follow me on the fedi, you may already be aware that I am in the unfortunate position of having to close diaspora.im down.
For a myriad number of reasons, not the least of which being that my mental health has been suffering lately, I find I just do not have what it takes to continue managing this project. I have been agonising for months about this decision and ultimately approached my mates at blackqueer.life for advice and support. Together we came to the conclusion that the best option for all involved was to merge both communities into one. I already am a moderator there so a merger would mean more support from a team and less responsibility on me alone.
I made the announcement in December of last year with the view that I would give everyone that chance to migrate and get used to the idea of us being gone by March this year (2026). And it would seem as if the months have just flown by because we now we are at the beginning of February and it is time to start wrapping things up.
If you receive this update and your contribution is still active, feel free to either cancel or move your contribution over to blackqueer.life where I and a team of other nonwhite mods and admins will continue the work of creating and managing a community lead by and for nonwhite black folks who want to remain on the fediverse without the constant and overbearing oversight and policing that comes with white moderation.
Thank you all so very very much for your support over the past year or two. I really do appreciate each and every one of you.
