Updates on our activities and progress.
Some unfortunate news
It is with significant regret that I write this update today. If any of you follow me on the fedi, you may already be aware that I am in the unfortunate position of having to close diaspora.im down. For a myriad number of reasons, not the l...

A way overdue update
It has been a while since I updated you all. I apologise. For reasons that range from not really knowing how this platform works to technical failures between OC and the bank, things have been a bit chaotic. It was in August last year that...

a monthly thank you to our supporters
i wanted to pen a small note to say thank you to our contributors this month. i love to see this. you are helping us stay loud and proud on the fedi without the stress of dealing with the subtle and not-so-subtle bigotry that is so characte...

About
i have been on the fedi for less than two years but i have seen how we get treated .. us being black folks, indigenous folks ... non-white folks. we get dismissed, abused, harassed on the regular and the moderation and administration teams of most of the fedi instances out there fall on the side of "protecting the peace" ... but not our peace.
i have tech skills, so i knew i needed to get away from those white spaces ... before it happened to me. so i made my own instance.
but as i watched more and more of us get chased off with just outright nonsense, i started to get this urge to make a space for us. a space where we are masters of our own space; captains of our own ship; where **we** control the hands of power. i've been thinking about it for months.
i finally decided it was time. and diaspora.im was born. i'd been sitting on the domain for a while. and yes - i am fully aware - now - how confusing it is because there is the whole diaspora platform .. and the name choice, in that sense, was kind of unfortunate. still ... i decided to run with it anyway.
with this opencollective organisation, i hope to build some transparency because nobody knows who i am but if the donated funds are visible - the income, the expenses, then i can build some trust.
i hope you'll help me sustain this dream ... and a thousand thank-yous to those of you who are already doing it.
