Hello all!
I'm Hillary, a social work student at Texas State who also works at The Sobering Center helping people stay out of jail and get into drug & alcohol treatment. As far as Drive by Howdy, I work on getting people their IDs, food stamps, birth certificates, MAP cards, and more. As you know those are a big barrier to getting jobs and housing!
This week two people's birth certificates came in the mail! One from Louisana and one from Michigan. I was having trouble with the one birth certificate because it kept giving me an error message. The person I was helping didn't know how to spell her mother's maiden name so I turned to ancestry.com and found a public record listing her father's name and the spelling of her mother's maiden name. I felt like such a sleuth. One of the women who got their birth certificate now has everything needed to take her driver's test and get her TX ID renewed!
Tomorrow I'm taking some people to go get a coordinated assessment for permanent housing.

Thank you Jean for your support. A little goes a long way or at least we've learned how to make it happen. A lot we are learning by trial and error. We've made mistakes along the way but we are trying our best to help those in need.

Honestly folks, I hang out in the background and Hillary does all the work. She is amazing and has been a huge asset to DBH. I'm so proud to have her on our team.
