Progress being made

Recently, I was reminded that we can't judge how we are doing by looking for the finish line. Working in social services it's not about a completed job. Its about celebrating small accomplishments along the way. We've experienced some heart...

About

Drive by Howdy is a grass roots organization that started October 2020. At first it was just trying to drop off supplies to the unhoused across from Greyhound Bus terminal in Austin, Texas. That morphed into providing clothing, shoes, camp supplies, and a weekly meal.

It was at that point that we realized we needed help. We couldnnt point we were getting people contacting us wanting to help.

Since then we have morphed into about 20 volunteers doing various jobs and tasks. Our main focus/goal is to do what we can for the unhoused today. We are providing assistance getting food stamps and other social services. We're also providing support for those who need to renew their identifications or driver's licenses.

Due to Austin passing Proposition B which made any camping a crime. Many unhoused have dispersed to places unknown. Others are getting some housing. Those that are we are supplying kitchenware, pantry items, and other apartment needs. Our hope for these people is to gain skills, knowledge, and any medical assistance that they may need.

Currently, we are a big supporter of Camp Haven located in Cedar Creek, Texas. There are about 12-15 unhoused people living there in a communal type setting. Everyone has to give 14 hours toward the community. It is a drug free zone. Josiah Ingalls graciously has allowed his 10 acre property to be utilized. He obtained private funds to get electricity at the camp. More work needs to be done and more supplies.

Giving financially to Drive by Howdy is a gift to allow people to regain independence and focus on getting their lives back to a place a productivity.
