Workshop Description:
Queering Memory is a generative workshop facilitated by award-winning poet Ilisha Thiru Purcell. Open to all levels of writing experience. After reading the work of Queer Trans Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC) Poets like Natalie Diaz and Danez Smith, we will write our own poems which play with and explore memory.
Content advice will be provided for each poem.

Additional Information:
There are a limited number of spaces for this workshop: Up to 15 people.
Suitable for adults aged 18+ or young people aged 16+ with parental/guardian supervision. 
Anyone can join the workshop but this workshop will centre Queer Trans Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC). 

Equipment you should bring: pen/pencil and paper; or an electronic device to work on. 
Equipment Provided: Instructions and printouts that people can keep.

Artist Bio:  
Ilisha Thiru Purcell (she/her) is an award-winning Sri Lankan-Scottish poet from Newcastle upon Tyne. Her work explores place, liminality, and violence. She was part of the inaugural Poets of Colour Incubator programme, a previous Young Creative Associate with New Writing North, and was commissioned to perform at the Newcastle Poetry Festival. Her work has appeared in publications such as Butcher’s Dog, Bi+ Lines Anthology, and was shortlisted for Primers Volume 7.

This event is free, but we encourage people to make a donation. Any money received will be divided between fundraisers for Congo, Palestine and Sudan.
