XR Whitstable Community Engagement Day
Published on August 25, 2020 by Marcelle Coburn

AS PART OF the XR UK regional actions Sunday 30th August is a day to join together with our local community.

We are holding an evening of activities at the iconic Whitstable Harbour.

There will be the opportunity to join in with Block Printing and a big beautiful map has been produced on which the public will be invited to pin their dreams for Whitstable.

Due to rising sea levels, caused by melting ice and global heating, we are continuing to inform residents of the direct effects of flooding to Whitstable over the next few decades.

By 2050 it is expected that we will have totally lost the use of our beaches.

The 2050 deadline set by the UK Government to reach net zero will be too late for Whitstable.

The community evening will culminate in a people's assembly to decide what we should focus on as a town, to become carbon neutral as soon as possible.

WE have printed 1000 fliers to distribute through doors and display in shops and businesses across the town.

We will be decorating the area with banners. Which will be used often in future actions in Whitstable and beyond.
