I have been thinking for many months now of proposing that the Florence project, which has apparently been defunct for about 2 years now, be renamed and modified to serve the goals of this proposal: Software Uprising

I was holding off suggesting this until I really had time to work out what I wanted to say in this space, and hopefully have a bit more finished work to show by way of demonstrating credibility, but I think enough time has passed (and enough has changed situationally) that it's more important to just get some discussion started.

I welcome any and all input!
