What's Up with Food for the Soul Chicago -- Winter So(u)lstice Edition
Published on December 21, 2022 by Amy DeLorenzo

Hello all,

Thank you for your support of Food for the Soul: Chicago this year!

We would like to share some exciting updates with you about how we've grown this year and what we've learned.

  • We moved our work over to Open Collective, as you can see, and they are now our fiscal sponsor :)

  • We participated in 2 chef demonstrations, one with Urban Growers Collective, and one with the Sukkah Fest in North Lawndale!

  • We did Fridays on the Plaza with Open Books / Lawndale Pop Up Spot!

  • We participated in the 1000 Man March with the Steans-Egan Center!

  • We formalized our partnership with the Steans-Egan Center and will be receiving an intern in 2023!

  • We met a lot of great folks to talk to about our work including Sebastian from the Evolved Network and Andrea from UCAN Chicago that have helped us solidify our vision, make connections, and enter 2023 with renewed purpose!

We have been using your donations to help pay for supplies for our chef demos, and we are looking forward to 2023 where we are planning more community events (we are still aiming for at least one per season).

We have faced continued challenges in setting up in-person events with our elder/community chefs, as we want to be as safe as possible during this sustained time of Covid. But, we are looking ahead to ways that we can use technology to help us record some of our sessions, ultimately reach a wider audience in 2023. Keeping our community safe and healthy while learning about food traditions is our top goal.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2023. Thank you for your continued support!

With gratitude,
Amy and Rachel
