Our Statement Regarding the Hungary's Pride Ban
Published on March 21, 2025 by Yuki-Julien "YukiDeer" Golovin
We, at FUR/HELP, have seen multiple attempts of the Hungarian government to demonize and discriminate against the LGBTQIA community. Ranging from likening LGBTQIA to pedophilia and never really ending in its volume and absurdity of attacks against us. This time, they have decided to ban Pride, because they want to take away our voice.
The anti-LGBTQ+ bill also calls for police to use face-recognition cameras to identify anyone at the event, which is due to take place on 22 June. We have no words to comment to such actions. They remind us of Russia's anti-LGBTQIA measures, befitting only dictators.
Orban's Fidesz party isn't even hiding its far-right alignment, and we have expected the situation in Hungary to get progressively worse. Nonetheless, FUR/HELP and other nonprofits joining us in protest, have a clear answer to such actions of the Hungarian Government. We hope that the European Union and other international organizations would not only condemn such open discrimination, but act rashly to combat it.
For all the Hungarian LGBTQIA+ people and associations, we stand strong with you in support, and we would stand there forever. We wish luck to the protestors, freedom to the Hungarian LGBTQIA+ people, and finally equal rights and safe life for each LGBTQIA person in Hungary.
FUR/HELP stands with Hungarian LGBTQIA+
