FUR/HELP joins other LGBTQIA non-profits in solidarity with Sakartvelo people and their wish for a European country with no laws that are inspired by autocracies.

We believe that the ruling party goes against wishes of the people of Sakartvelo (preferred name for Georgia), the Foreign Agents law, which shares many aspects with it's russian analog had no perspective to be approved. It had almost no support in the society, nor in the oppositional political circles.

The ruling party also have attempted to instate "traditional values" in the constitution, claiming that a marriage is only a union of a man and woman, thus taking rights from LGBTQIA people that want to have a union too.  the proposal would also ban education and public gatherings it describes as popularizing “same-sex family or intimate relationships,” as well as “incest.”

We think that these proposals would distance Georgia from it's goal: to become a European Union country.

We support protests in Sakartvelo and say with them: No to Russian law! არა რუსულ კანონს!
