MISSION

the current system forces people to choose between lacking basic resources to pursue their passion, and sustaining themselves by selling out most of the value in and control over their work. we need new institutions, economies, and networks, across technology, finance, power, culture and information, which serve and enrich those acting to distribute wealth and power the widest, rather than those seeking to concentrate it the tightest.

future modern is the interdisciplinary movement of thinkers, doers, makers, shakers, artists, technologists, researchers, activists, organizers, and entrepreneurs, vanguarding a new paradigm for creation and production that rewards liberation and abundance, not exclusion, extraction, and exploitation.

radical communities, particularly Black, brown, feminized, poor and working creators, must champion modern advancements like blockchain and ai to realize their full revolutionary potential. these communities stand to most benefit from truly distributed power systems, and are best positioned to embrace them and spread them to the broader culture.

PEOPLE

our network combines years of formal training and traditional experience from our time at institutions like caltech, uchicago, duke, berkeley, usc, ucla, bird rides, amazon, facebook, align, lenovo, microsoft, ontraport, and the los angeles department of water and power, with the base cultural competency we garnered from our work with such independent orgs as Occupy Wall Street, OWSLA, Mad Decent records, Complex magazine.

our core values are the force driving our impact on the world. this is what we stand for:

provenance: we acknowledge and appreciate the original ideas and work that moves culture forward. We create the wave others ride.

discernment: we intuitively value the freedom and responsibility of expression. we value honesty, transparency, truth, and the space to debate it; we value skepticism, inquiry, and experimentation; we’re unafraid to be wrong.
equity: control over our labor will build healthy relationships within our community. group ownership of all we produce–fairness is tantamount.

PROCESS

how we distribute equity to our community:

create and curate power-subverting intellectual properties, with curation focused on undervalued (underground) IPs. these IPs can range from original, independent, art, to open source software, to new drugs.
cultivate belonging around original, independent culture and thought, networking these IPs and the people connected to them. create and disseminate visual, engaging counterpropaganda promoting our values while discrediting the mainstream, status quo options.
get our community early equity in these IPs, leveraging synergies across our network and facilitating labor in exchange for equity as well as capital. for instance, our community can mass join open-source and distributed alternatives to legacy models, including influential artists whose audiences will follow them to new frontiers. This earns equity in these alternatives for our community through use-to-earn models, while establishing relationships with these projects toward opportunities to earn more equity through managed services in a virtual cycle of adoption. Future Modern adds value to amazing ecosystem partners such as these.

distribute equity in future modern itself to those who contribute to the network. future modern builderberg, LLC is incorporated as a limited liability corporation and operates as a cooperative according to our bylaws. All members of future modern are owners with voting rights, earning shares in exchange for their work with the network. Additionally, future modern has a social token, $BUILD, which does not represent ownership in future modern but acts as a limited supply community currency granting its own set of social perks and privileges to its holders.
