What's Update
Published on December 12, 2022 by csgeek

  • What did you accomplish during 2022? How did you use money?
Funds haven't been really used this year as the main event will take place early next year.  We usually post a year in review update that's a bit more detailed.  We'll likely do that after February as that will be when our major conference will take place.  If you're not familiar with it, GeekBeacon hosts an OSS conference called GBF at least once a year.  This time around we have gotten some sponsorship from SuSe and will be using the funds to pay for the resources we need like (ReStream) and maybe with enough funding we should be able to provide some thank you gift to the speakers who grace us with their presence.

Our Store.  We launched a GeekBeacon store not too long ago.  We're still in the works to migrate that to the OpenCollective to allow for further transparency on how all the proceeds are being used and generated.

  • What challenges did you face during 2022? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow
We stretched ourselves a bit thin with aspirations and projects.  We have released a few episodes of GeeksAborad that you can see on our website.  I think our main lessons learned is to tackle smaller steps as we grow.  Creators can't be project managers and creating content.  We need to remember to aim small and celebrate our roots.

  • What are your plans for 2023? Anything exciting coming up?

We're looking forward to having a more polished conference planning track.  More community events.  If you're not in our discord please come join us most of our events are advertised there where we have thriving community that's growing every day of techies, geeks and other enthusiasts sharing knowledge and learning from one another.

More conferences are in the works likely smaller scale and more peace meal.  We're also looking to consolidate all of our business operation on the OpenCollective platform.  We're very excited to be increasingly more open and being able to just focus on fun exciting projects.

Is there any new content or projects you'd like to see us focus on? Please let us know!
