April summary!
Published on May 8, 2023 by Germantown Fridge

We had a stellar April at the Germantown Community Fridges! We finally made the switch to Open Collective which allows us to easily track all of our monetary donations and expenses in one place. With that, we are excited to share our first of many monthly summaries:

In April, we raised $951 thanks to your generous support. 13 of you have signed up to be our monthly sustainers, together committing $435/month towards our mission. This is amazing and we are so, so thankful!

We spent $1025.80 including $105.74 on cooking and cleaning supplies and $100 on fridge maintenance. $820.06 was spent by our dedicated weekly grocery shoppers to stock the fridges.

Our incredible volunteers rescued thousands of pounds of food that was otherwise headed to the landfill, for a total of 72 rescues! Huge shout-out to our amazing food rescue partners who make these fridge fill-ups possible.

We had another successful cooking event at @fumcog, making 80 delicious breakfast meals. We were also lucky to receive hundreds of ready-to-eat meals from our friends at @doubletrellis across 8 different pickups.

The first two harvests of fresh greens from our garden made it into the High st fridge to nourish our neighbors.

We had an eggcelent Easter giveaway, where we shared 100 dozen of eggs with our community.

In addition, countless neighbors and organizations brought food donations on their own accord and dozens of kind volunteers made sandwiches for the fridges.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without all of you - our neighbors, our friends, our community. We are always looking to grow our volunteer ranks so please reach out if you’d like to get involved.

We are also currently spending more money than we are bringing in, so if you’re able to donate even $5 a month, please consider becoming a monthly sustainer at the link in our bio!
