Raffle Regulations

Kia ora koutou,
We know that selling raffle tickets is a great way to fundraise, but did you know there are laws around what you can and can't do? DIA regulates this and their website has a lot of useful information on it. We know that, in today's almost cashless society, it's often easier to run your raffles online, but it's recently been brought to our attention that you can't actually do this without a licence, and you can't obtain a licence unless you meet the Class 3 gambling criteria. To meet this criteria, you have to be giving away prizes that exceed $5000 in value, and you must turnover more than $25,000 from your sales.
If any of you would meet this criteria and want to run an online raffle, please get in touch with us before you promote it, to talk about licences. If your raffles are smaller, as we'd expect they would be, please limit it to in-person sales.
Ngā mihi nui!
