About

Gukhanmun is free and open source software that makes Korean text easier to read by converting hanja (Chinese characters used in Korean writing) into hangul (the Korean alphabet). For readers unfamiliar with hanja, a few characters can interrupt an otherwise readable passage. Gukhanmun helps remove that barrier while offering ways to keep the original characters alongside their readings.

Gukhanmun works with plain text, HTML, and Markdown. It is available as a command-line tool and as a Rust library, with bindings for JavaScript and TypeScript, so developers can bring this functionality into their own websites and applications.

This collective supports Gukhanmun's ongoing development and maintenance. Donations help sustain the work of improving the software, fixing bugs, and writing documentation. If you use Gukhanmun or want to help make Korean text easier to read, please consider supporting the project.
