About

Health Flare builds free, open source, privacy-first health tracking apps. The org maintains two:
HealthFlare, a calm health journal for chronic illness, and
Inner Flare, a cycle tracker. Both run entirely on-device. No account, no cloud sync, no analytics, no ads. Your data never leaves your phone unless you choose to export it.

The project started from a simple frustration: tracking chronic illness well, across symptoms, medications, appointments, and the patterns between them, shouldn't require handing a health journal's worth of personal data to a company whose business model depends on keeping it. Years spent navigating diagnosis and ongoing care firsthand showed how much of that burden falls on patients and families, and how little existing software respected it. Health Flare is what we built instead.

The apps are GPLv3, the code is public, and every feature is specified in plain-language Gherkin before it ships, so anyone can read exactly what the software does.

How this collective works
Health Flare is not a registered nonprofit. Funds raised here are pooled for project costs, app store fees, hosting, tooling, not routed to anyone's personal income. Every transaction is public on this ledger. Priority for spending: keeping the apps running and development moving, then infrastructure and compliance costs, then maintainer time, in that order. Sponsoring doesn't buy priority support or guaranteed features; everyone gets triaged the same way.

We publish a short quarterly update on income, expenses, and what shipped as a result. If something here ever changes, that update is where you'll hear it first.
