For many of us, Hedvigsdal has become much more than a house in the Stockholm archipelago.

Through the extraordinary hospitality of Therese, the Laanela family and everyone who has helped fill the house over the years, it has become a place to return to – a home away from home, and the centre of a growing extended family of friends.

Hedvigsdal was built in 1883, during the golden age of the Stockholm archipelago's grosshandlarvillor – the grand merchant villas built as city life began stretching out towards the islands. With its verandas, intricate snickarglädje and more than a century of summers behind it, the house carries plenty of history.

But the history we know best is the one still being written.

It is in long dinners and crowded tables, swims and saunas, celebrations and quiet mornings. In old friends returning and new friends being welcomed in. Over the years, the generosity behind Hedvigsdal has created something larger than the house itself: a community.

We are friends, family and friends-of-friends who want to help care for this remarkable place and contribute to keeping Hedvigsdal open, loved and in good shape for many more gatherings, friendships and archipelago summers to come.
