Shallow Water Equations notes for Conservative, Nonlinear Solver available!
Published on February 25, 2022 by Joe Schoonover

SELF - Shallow Water Equations notes
A set of draft notes are now available that cover the development of the conservative form Nonlinear Shallow Water Equations solver. This material is meant to accompany a few of the livestreams for "The 'F' Word". As more of this series is built out, I will be updating these notes to include explanations of various demonstration programs, variable topography dynamics, and f-plane and beta-plane dynamics.

Additionally, in the coming weeks I'll be working towards motivating and applying split-form equations, following previous work :
  • G. Gassner, A. Winters, & D. Kopriva (2015), "A well balanced and entropy conservative discontinuous Galerkin spectral element method for the shallow water equations"
  • H. Ranocha (2016), " Shallow water equations: Split-form, entropy stable, well-balanced, and positivity preserving numerical methods"
