We are requesting funding for a workshop series called “Worldbuilding Regenerative Futures”, where the outcomes of the workshops will be woven and documented in an exhibition called “Gallery of the Futures”. Our collective imagination workshop “Worldbuilding Regenerative Futures” emerges from one core question: How do we imagine alternative futures from the perspectives of more-than-human species and co-create worlds that accommodate the needs and desires of all life? The documentation of this process will be reflected in the “Imagining Regenerative Futures” zine. Through custom-designed guided meditations and sound journeys, group inquiry, and the use of tools that nurture psychological flexibility such as the ACT-matrix (Acceptance and Commitment Training), participants cultivate their ability to foresee futures with greater empathy for non-human beings and the self-awareness to notice how their values and behaviours work towards or against the futures they wish to call into being. We are seeking to build on our place-based approach. So far, all of our in-person workshops have been hosted in Berlin. In February 2023, we contributed to a collective imagination festival (initiated by Civic Society, Halle für Halle) to reimagine the purpose of the field and hangars of Berlin’s former Tempelhofer Airport. Our desire is to expose more people to multi-species imagination, and work with a wider diversity of actors in Berlin, equipping them with the inspiration and tools to develop citizens’ imaginative capacities. This effort is geared towards envisioning cities that harmonize with multiple species and co-creating regenerative community systems. We also aspire to create a Zine “Imagining Regenerative Futures” that includes these creative outputs and small participant interviews, reflecting both on their experience envisioning regenerative futures and the key elements of their regenerative futures and how they are different from today’s realities. The Zine would also include a prototyped workshop framework that can be shared in other place-based communities. This project is driven by our expertise and work experience as designers, visual artists, and writers.
