In Our Own Words CIC

In Our Own Words was set up by ethnic minority psychologists and therapists in the recognition that one of the difficulties ethnic minorities face in accessing appropriate psychological support quickly is the lack of a shared lexicon with health professionals which enable them to gain access to psychological services early. The other difficulty was in gathering together knowledge resources of how they conceptualise their health so services could be more culturally appropriate. We aim to work with people from ethnic minority backgrounds to build an open source resource of everyday terms for pain, suffering, fatigue and distress to reduce stigma and to build community links to facilitate knowledge sharing and coproduction of research and practice activities to improve service provision.
