About
Our Work & Values:
We are a mutual aid network for and by sex workers on "Vancouver Island" doing peer-led advocacy, education & direct aid. We offer micro-grants to island-based sex workers quarterly (March, June, September & December) based on need & social marginalization, for as long as funds exist.
While bad laws and government inaction continue to threaten the survival of our most vulnerable community, we believe that mutual aid and other acts of practicing interdependence help make new futures possible.
Our work is guided by the lineage of Disability Justice. The title for the project was inspired by the works of advocate Mia Mingus’s writing on "Access Intimacy", which she describes as “that elusive, hard to describe feeling when someone else ‘gets’ your access needs” (2011). Intimate Access points us towards the kind of closeness and care that makes our survival possible.
About Our Micro-grants:
- We offer micro-grants to all sex workers, in any type of sex work, who are living & working on "Vancouver Island, British Columbia". We prioritize requests for support from sex workers who are at greatest risk of experiencing the harms of poverty, stigma and isolation.
- This is not an emergency fund – funds will not be distributed on an emergency basis.
- When we have surplus funds, we will open up applications for a period of 2 weeks. Cash is given whenever possible.
- Applications from the most marginalized sex workers (chronically-ill, disabled and medically high-risk, low-income, unhoused/unstably-housed, outdoor, youth, migrant, QT/BIPOC workers) are prioritized.
- We also prioritize first time requests. When we have surplus funds, we strive to give an amount to 2nd & 3rd time applicants, but this is dependent on request volume with priority going to multiply marginalized, criminalized, in person workers.
- We do not profit from this. Our budget, including all donations and expenses are publicly available on this platform.
- The best way of offering support is to become a monthly donor to our Intimate Access Fund!
Recurring donations allow us to provide sustainable support to local workers. We exist in an interdependent world - your donation is an act of solidarity!
