Jacqui Doughty

 

Jacqui Doughty is an award-winning film and television producer, director and storyteller with a passion for creating documentaries that inspire positive change. Throughout her career, she has been driven by a simple belief: the most powerful stories are those that help us better understand each other and the world we share. 

Jacqui began her career at the BBC, where she spent 13 years as a researcher, director and series producer, developing a reputation for producing thoughtful, engaging factual programmes. In 2008, she founded Walk Tall Media Ltd, allowing her to focus on independent productions with a strong social and environmental purpose. 

Her work has taken her across the globe, collaborating with local communities, poets, artists, scientists, conservationists and changemakers to uncover authentic stories. In 2010, she received a BAFTA nomination for World Cup Stories, a short-form documentary series filmed in South Africa. She went on to produce In My Shoes, a 16-part series following a day in the lives of children across China and later became Associate Producer on the acclaimed documentary feature The Six, telling the remarkable story of the forgotten Chinese survivors of the Titanic. 

Jacqui believes that today’s young people will inherit the consequences of the decisions we make now. That conviction has shaped much of her recent work, focusing on environmental restoration, climate resilience and the people leading change on the ground. She loves working alongside experts whose knowledge and passion help transform complex issues into compelling, human stories that engage audiences and inspire action. 

In 2020, Jacqui co-founded Films for Change Ltd with film-maker Zuleika Kingdon, combining their experience to create ambitious documentary projects with measurable impact. Their latest feature documentary, The Rwenzori Rainmakers, explores the relationship between forest restoration, water security and climate resilience in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains, demonstrating how local action can inspire global solutions. 

Although highly experienced as a producer, Jacqui remains deeply involved in the creative process. She writes, directs and edits, while also enjoying the strategic challenges of financing, partnerships and production logistics. She thrives on bringing talented people together, creating collaborative teams where everyone can contribute their best work. 

Her filmmaking has been recognised with the Japan Prize, three Royal Television Society Awards, an ETMA Award and an ERA Award, alongside three BAFTA nominations—recognition that reflects a career dedicated to telling stories that inform, inspire and make a lasting difference. 

She looks forward to getting the team of The Rain Starts with Us back to Uganda to follow and build on the planned Impact Initiative making sure that The Rwenzori Rainmakers gets to the hard to reach villages where it will have the most impact, along with the workshops and tree planting initiatives that will accompany it.  We hope our campaign will also be noticed by those able to support the change that is needed politically and financially.
