Citizens of jawns.club! Our server was just upgraded to the latest version of Mastodon, which means that for the first time it's possible to search for posts based on keywords instead of just hashtags.
This feature is now available for all of our members…with an important caveat!
By default, your posts may NOT appear in search (at least not without hashtags and a few other cases) because you need to opt-in, which we consider a good thing overall but may be confusing!
To opt-in, visit your privacy settings. Then check the box “Include public posts in search results.” You may want to explore other privacy options on that page, too, even if it's just to better understand Mastodon's default settings.
Either way, full text search is both a good thing for discovery of other people...and a potential vector for spam and abuse so we're paying close attention to how this impacts our server and the broader Fediverse.
