Supporting tenant and worker co-operative members through financial difficulties

About

Due to Green Square Accord’s initial rejection of our offer to buy the building (with negotiations still on-going), plus continuing delays with construction, our Stirchley Cooperative Development members find themselves in difficult financial situations.

Many of our worker cooperative members are currently without their regular wages, or on reduced wages, due to being unable to move into their new space. Meanwhile, many of our tenants expected to move in as early as January and some were forced to give up fixed term tenancies, leaving them effectively homeless or in more expensive shorter term accommodations. Others have had to pay to store furniture, flooring and other items they bought in preparation for their move or have had other unexpected expenses come up because of the delays.

We are asking our supporters in the community, our family and our friends, to donate money to help both tenant and worker co-operative members deal with these financial challenges in the short term. We have, so far, been blown away by all the support you’ve given us and we feel very grateful for all of it.

This is not to provide longer term support but just to help get our members over this particular hurdle. We will be helping one another to access more stable, long term support going forwards. We will also, hopefully, be able to use some of this money to assist our lower income members with moving costs if and when we are able to move into the building. This will include our newer council tenants, too.

Thank you in advance for anything you are able to give!
