Volunteer Update 26 May 2020
Published on May 27, 2020 by Erika Wakid

Here we are 9 weeks from lockdown and so many of you continue to step up to help your neighbours (and in some case people a little further afield). To date, you've completed 234 unique resident requests and are additionally providing regular support for 111 residents through our resident-volunteer matching program. We are incredibly grateful to have a pool of volunteers that are so kind and generous with their time.

For those that are matched with a resident, thank you for continuing to reach out to them. Please do let us know if you’d like to take a break at any point. We have other volunteers who are happy to take over the reins for a bit—or even to buddy up and share the load. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think this applies to you.

We realise some residents have become very dependent on their volunteers and if you have concerns about that please let us know. A few of you have expressed concern about what the future is for our group, partly out of concern for the residents you are helping but also out of interest in how we can build on this amazing network of neighbours.

A group of RBKC Mutual Aid Admins has formed a group to discuss this and we would welcome any ideas you have. What sort of need do you think this group can meet going forward? How would you like it to be organized? Please drop us an email to let us know your thoughts.

Finally, a brief update on finances: we've had donations to date of £2,314.49. We have used these to finance the needs of all residents who are unable to access their bank accounts, to fund hardship requests whenever we can, and to minimize the use of cash as a protective measure against the virus. All financial transactions are recorded on our Open Collective page and can be viewed by anyone for complete transparency. Accordingly, please remember not to include your resident’s full name when submitting an expense. Should you or anyone you know wish to donate to our fund, please visit https://opencollective.com/kcmutualaidzone3. Any funds left over, when things go back to normal, will be donated to local charities.

Once again, thank you for continuing to be so generous with your time, we really appreciate it.
