Growing Food for Brent
Raising money for our community food-growing project across Brent
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been high demand for fresh fruit and vegetables among our community members. Our food growing project aims to develop and run community food-growing spaces in collaboration with local residents, council, charities and other organisations in order to make fresh organically grown fruit and vegetables more accessible to the wider community. Mutual Aid have established firm partnerships with local food banks who will be the primary recipients of our produce. We will also nurture food growing knowledge and skills among community members, as well as promote health and wellbeing. Working with community projects, gardening and being in nature are good for mental, physical health and building community spirit.
Over the past four months we have started work on three food growing sites in South Brent, and in 2022, following the success of these pilots, we aim to develop other sites across Brent. We have established an enthusiastic team of volunteers to dig, wheelbarrow, sow, water and tend to our growing sites. Although we are primarily powered by people, we are now looking for donations for compost, soil and equipment to take the project forward. We thank you for your generous donation, and if you’d like to get involved in gardening or organising this project please get in touch
