BACKGROUND
Wellbeing Warriors is a low cost, weekly, after school club for local children aged 7-12 years who live in Keyham and the surrounding area. A collaborative provision led by The Tree Project CIC with Creative Curiosities SW, Sea Wyld and support from Plymouth City Council Youth Service, we have been running since September 2021.
We have previously secured Community Sparks funding and other small pots including Magic Little Grants from People’s Postcode lottery. We’re delighted to have received funding from North Yard Trust to cover core costs of running the club until March 2024.
COMMUNITY SPARKS
We would like to use the funds to help towards costs of an October half term trip to The Box and staff training-development costs.
Box Trip: children have been invited to take part in a free workshop in connection with The British Art Show 9 with migration as the theme. The trip will take place as an extended core session so funds will be needed to cover extra staffing hours and transport.
Staff Training-Development
We are developing a small but excellent team of practitioners for our work. The training will be 3 hours long, to acknowledge their commitment & the value of training staff will be paid a reduced hourly rate for attending the session. It will take place in December 2022 or January 2023. The session will include:
- Safeguarding responsibilities & duties for staff to ensure we are all clear about our roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and young people. This is part of a planned piece of consultancy work with NSPCC to develop robust and clear safeguarding policy & procedure.
- Exploring simple yoga & mindfulness practices that we use with children
Junk Modelling Session with Plymouth Play Scrapstore a practitioner will lead the team thru a 1-hour junk modelling session teaching us the secrets of supporting and enabling children to junk model with Scrapstore resources.
