This is KnockStop NZ, in memory of Shane Christie. Helping those with suspected CTE and post concussion syndrome to receive urgent care, for pharmacy kits to be created and for clinics to be set up around NZ for intensive treatment.
About
The Challenge
Concussion and post-concussion syndrome (PCS) represent one of the most urgent, yet
under-addressed, health crises in New Zealand.
- 30–50% of concussed patients risk developing long-term PCS without early intervention.
- Concussion-related costs to NZ: $1.5 billion over 5 years.
- Head injuries double the risk of dementia and increase the likelihood of incarceration by 2.5%.
Despite proven solutions — Hoffer’s NAC study (44% reduction in PCS), Dr. Mark Gordon’s
neuroinflammation protocol, Antonucci’s functional neuro-rehab programs — there is no national
translational pathway to bring this into mainstream care.
The Vision
New Zealand can lead the world in concussion management by aligning clinical science, patient
advocacy, and business strategy.
We propose a four-part model:
1. Immediate Funding for Patients in Crisis – Direct support for those currently unable to afford essential
tests, consultations, and treatment.
2. Concussion Kits in Pharmacies – Immediate NAC and practical tools (e.g., pre-cut K-tape,
instructions).
3. Regional Clinics Nationwide – Intermediate care combining medical + functional neurochiropractic +
musculoskeletal support.
4. Auckland Centre of Excellence – Advanced technologies: Gyrostem, VNG goggles, neurorehab gear,
research, and national standards.
North Star Goal: Reduce PCS by 30–50% nationwide within 10 years and set NZ as the benchmark in
global concussion care.
