8 weeks, 6:30 - 9:00 PM - starting on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 - taught by Tim Diamond.
Tools and materials included in the price. Recommended £60, but pay anything from £25 if you can't afford the full price.
Aim: To give an introduction to woodworking techniques, tools and basic joints. By the end of the course the you will be able to make simple furniture using one or more of the joints learned, when to use different joints and which tools to use.
To demonstrate this understanding, the you will complete a 4-joint frame to a reasonably proficient standard
Week 1.
Introduction
Safety
Basic marking out
Concept of Face and Edge
Depending on levels of proficiency:
Basic sawing technique
Chiseling
½ lap joint
Week 2
½ lap/halving joint practice
Basic toolkit
Buying and sharpening chisels
Week 3
Bridle joint practice
Buying hand planes
Week 4
Lapped dovetail joint practice
Specialist tool - router plane
Week 5
Through Mortice practice
Woodworking resources
Week 6 - 8
Construct frame
Those who are more proficient will probably work through this quickly. Once they have demonstrated some proficiency, we can cover dovetails or they can work on a personal project.
