Jam Jar Lamp making

Make a lamp from a glass jar, a bit of wood and some simple electronics

Thursday, November 27, 2025, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (UTC+01:00)

About

Make your own lamp from a block of wood, an upcycled glass jar and a strip of LEDs. Paint the outside of the jam jar to cast a more interesting shade . The device will be powered by a regular phone charger cable. Jar, wood, screws, cable, etc. included, but feel free to bring your own favourite, clean glass jar and USB micro charging cable. USB adapter plug to stick into a power socket is not included. The light will consume about 2W of energy. Session is facilitated by Bil Bas.

Skills:
  • Simple woodwork (using a rasp, a plane, a drill and a mallet & chisel)
  • Very simple electronics (just 4 solder joints).
  • Paint the inside or outside of the jar to decorate it. Alternatively cut paper to mask the light.

Absolutely no experience necessary. Wear clothes you don't might getting sawdust and paint on.

Children, 10-17, must be accompanied by an adult.

There is plenty of free parking, on site. You do need to put your vehicle's registration in at main reception, to register as a visitor, to avoid getting a parking fine!
