Last Pick Theatre

We operate as a mutual aid group as well as a drag theatre collective and we operate under a queer anarchist framework. To us, these interests are intertwined. Alongside providing space for entertainment, joy and safety we also aim to raise money for those who need it. We prioritise trans, non binary and intersex people within the region and we have found that most of the help needed currently is with affording the sky high fees required for private healthcare - though healthcare funding is not all we hope to provide. As we grow we hope to be able to facilitate others in the community who want to start their own projects or help with other projects in need, as well as those who want to start performing with like-minded people. Essentially, our long term aim is to help the community help itself - by not only throwing money at an ever growing systemic problem, but creating meaningful ongoing change by assisting with food insecurity, housing, and other needs to the best of our ability and building resources within other local grassroots groups and non profits who can further facilitate this community action. These goals are not attainable currently with the collectives structure, and we don't want to make a situation worse by not being able to put 100% into what we do. This is why we're currently focused on doing what we do best: using Drag to bring everyone together, and raise much needed funds. We are a small group of disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent young adults - some of which students, who know that we have very limited capabilities on our own and that community mobilisation is needed to make our wider aims work. This spirit has been largely absent in the city for a long time, with many too burnt out from just trying to survive in difficult circumstances especially those affected by state violence. This is why we want to focus on community from the ground up, not just be an avenue for directing crowdfund donations
