LGBTQIA+ Little Free Library

The LGBTQIA+ Little Free Library was set up at the end of 2023 as a response to the frequent banning of queer books in school libraries. We started doing small amounts of fundraising and taking our collection of books to different LGBTQIA+ youth groups in the Bristol area, and since then we've grown to working with four Bristol youth work organisations, a monthly open library service in the middle of Bristol and more community-based work to come. We have also developed a wide collection from picture books all the way up to older teens.

We work on the Little Free Library ethos of "Take a Book, Share a Book" meaning we have no membership, due dates or fines. You take a book for as long as you need it - a month, six months, a year, whatever! - and then when you're ready you can come back and swap it out for another one. The most important thing is that quality LGBTQIA+ books are in the hands of children and young people.
