About

Local Community Helpers, formerly Community Coronavirus Care, is a team of volunteers within Leatherhead and the surrounding villages. We have collated a volunteer army  ready to receive calls for assistance, and send volunteers where needed, to support and assist the isolated, vulnerable and in need members of our communities.

Local Community Helpers has been formed by a group of ordinary people, seeing the need to come together to make sure every member of our community is supported.

We have a network of volunteers offering support to anyone struggling to get out and those who need some extra help. We can help by doing shopping, collecting prescriptions and essentials until you are back on your feet. Where we cannot help or the caller requires specialist support, they are referred to the County, Borough or District Council or local charities and organisations where applicable.

Anyone in need can get in touch; we are determined that no one in our community will be left without support. We currently support Leatherhead, Ashtead, Bookham and Fetcham with tasks such as prescription collections or small local shopping.

So far over 7 ,000 people have joined our network to offer or ask for help. We currently have 10 DBS checked call handlers, 100 DBS Community Helpers and a strong coordination and administration team that oversea the running of LCH. To date, Local Community Helpers/ CCC has received over ,6000 calls to the helpline.

We have been kindly donated a freephone number to help those not online to reach us. The freephone 0800 number is being distributed to residents in our target areas by way of flyer, printed press, social media, television and radio and email distribution lists. Ring us and leave a message then a volunteer call handlers will ring back, the request is noted and sent out to the assigned volunteer.

The website gives easy access of information on Local Community Helpers which can be updated regularly as needed.

By helping to fund this project, it will help us build on this initial momentum, ensure LCH becomes a sustainable service for the weeks/months ahead- helping to keep the most vulnerable community members safe and supported.
