Toys Party on Friday + New Partners
Published on December 8, 2021 by Mark Buhrmester
Happy Holidays, everyone! We are writing to invite you to our Toys Party this Friday, Dec 10 at Friends Tavern from 6:00-8:30pm. RSVP here! At this event we will collect new unwrapped toys which will be distributed to the families affected by the 89th Street Fire. In addition, we will recognize other food justice community groups and celebrate our volunteers with drag performances and music. It's a party, so come join us and have fun!
We also wanted to write to share a brief update on our work. The Love Wins Food Pantry has continued to provide food on a weekly basis to hundreds of neighbors.
Every two weeks we provide fresh produce to about 300 families. We are upset that there has been no drop in the number of people who rely on Love Wins Food Pantry to feed themselves and their families, but we are moved by the opportunity to serve our neighbors.
On alternating weeks, we continue to provide fresh produce to our long-term partner Colectivo Intercultural Transgrediendo (CITG), which they distribute to their community. If you are thinking about local organizations to financially support this holiday season, consider making a gift to CITG: https://www.ourvoicesarefree.org/donation. The work they do for their community is a tremendous asset.
We have also begun partnering with the Jackson Heights Community Fridge and Elmhurst Community Fridge 2, by delivering hundreds of pounds of food to each of them twice per month. We are excited to expand the circle of support that we are able to provide our neighbors. You can find the Jackson Heights Community Fridge on Northern Boulevard by The Queensboro restaurant, and the Elmhurst Community Fridge 2 on 77th Street & Woodside Ave.
