v3.0.0: out now, and what comes next
Published on March 15, 2026 by Hugo Farajallah

Hello everyone!

After 2 years in the making, LWT 3.0.0 is out!

More than 1,000 commits, 22 milestones achieved, many community requests added, and a ground-up rework of the architecture and the UI. The app is ready, now.

Many things changed: InnoDB for the database with a support for multiple users, clear PHP backend modular monolith pattern, a proper API, and a new frontend with Alpine.js. The full list is in the release notes.

This will be central for the future of the app: multi-user setup (self-host for you communities, schools), and security hardening (we will provide a hosted solution). It means LWT becomes available without installing anything.

The public hosted instance will be the immediate next goal. I want to make the app as accessible as possible, and most language learners won't know how to self-host. I you want to contribute to the project, it is now that your contributions will have the most impact. We have overcome the technical challenge, now is the time to make it useful for everyone!

Thanks,
Hugo
