About

Madra Teanga is a free and open-source ecosystem for learning the Irish language. It is the next evolution of the Sionnach project, rebuilt from the ground up to belong to the community.

The Mission We are a non-profit initiative dedicated to promoting the learning and speaking of Celtic languages through ethical technology. We are building an app that anyone can use, anyone can contribute to, and anyone can inspect (licensed under AGPLv3).

Our Commitment to Openness Language belongs to everyone.
  • No Paywalls: We will never lock learning features behind a subscription.
  • No Ads: We will never sell your attention to advertisers.
  • No Commercial Lock-in: The code is open forever.

Why Support Us? All funds received on this platform are donations used strictly to sustain the project.
Your contributions go directly to:

  1. Infrastructure: Server costs, database fees, and hosting.
  2. The Arts: Paying native speakers fairly for voice recordings and content creation.

While we love to recognize our Scholars, Poets, and Patrons within the app, these contributions are gestures of support for the mission, not the purchase of a product.
Bígí linn ar an turas seo. (Join us on this journey.)
