Our collective faced many challenges in 2022. Some of these challenges have been felt worldwide: inflation, rising cost of living, and Covid-19. 2022 continues to teach us about the invaluable benefit of community, solidarity, and collective care. Malaika Collective continues to come up against systemic biases and oppression as a Black woman entrepreneur which lends itself to one of our biggest obstacles: funding and capital. Despite these challenges, we are leaning on our passions, resourcefulness, and grit as continue to grow into a collective unapologetically centering Black voices, narratives, perspectives, and experiences. We are growing in ways that allow us to utilize the skills and talents of Black creatives in support of not only our mission, but also collective healing and expansion.
