THIS WEEKEND: The Handmaid’s Tale
Published on September 24, 2024 by MHC NorCal Club

Hello! We look forward to seeing you at the San Francisco Opera House (across the street from City Hall) on Sunday, September 29th. May, the event organizer, will be wearing a Green Griffin scarf. We encourage you to arrive around 1:30 PM, as we’ll head inside by 1:45 PM. If you’re running late, text/email May with your ETA as soon as possible. As this update is being posted publicly for easy reference, we are not including May's contact information; you can find it the email sent from [email protected] with the subject line "PLEASE READ: Event Logistics & Seating for MHC @ SF Opera: The Handmaid’s Tale".

We will be sitting in BAL3 (see below image), close to BAL2. Those who registered earlier (ending with contribution #787345) will be sitting towards the middle and those who registered later (contribution #787346 and onward) will be sitting on the left hand side of the stage. We unfortunately are not able to accommodate any refunds or last-minute additions to our group at this point, as we purchased a block of seats in advance.

Important Notes

  • Wear what makes you feel comfortable, but please avoid wearing strong scents.
  • Children under age 3, including babies in arms, are not allowed.
  • All bags are subject to search. Please see the SF Opera’s Bag Policy here.
  • All performances begin promptly at their scheduled times. Latecomers will not be seated until the first intermission and are invited to the North Dress Circle Lounge to view a livestream of the performance.
  • This opera will be performed in English, and there will also be English supertitles projected above the stage.
  • Note that “[t]he right times to applaud can get confusing, especially depending on what you're seeing. The easiest approach is to wait for someone else to start clapping, and then join along. A brief silence after singing doesn't always mean it's applause time.” (via HuffPost)
  • More info for first-time visitors can be found here.

This performance will have a run time of 2 hours 50 minutes with one intermission. SF Opera provides a following content advisory here and a complete synopsis here. Visit this page for more details about how to get to the opera house (including directions, parking, and public transit information). If you're interested in carpooling, email the club at [email protected]. While we can't guarantee a ride, we can potentially connect you with others coming from the same area.
