About
Tēnā koutou,
I'm Micheline Evans (Mauritian Creole, Pākehā) and I Co-Lead the Kumutoto Restoration Project alongside Martin Andrews.
We're restoring the mana and mouri of Kumutoto through learning and sharing histories, ecological restoration, and reconnecting people with the awa.
In the short period of time I’ve been involved in this project, I’ve seen incredible growth in both the ngahere and the people involved. To see the awa change its course, native seedlings popping up after weeds have been cleared and watching our native ika grow is mesmerising. I’m also totally inspired by our rangatahi, who bring so much knowledge, curiosity and generosity. I love seeing their leadership and expertise grow with every project, working bee and community event. Anyone looking to hire graduates let us know! We have the most extraordinary group of skilled rangatahi who are the brains, brawn and future of this kaupapa. The kaha, passion and expertise of all of our volunteers never cease to amaze me.
