Future of ML Launchpad at Open Collective
Published on December 8, 2022 by Andreas Schuderer

As all who read this will know, ML Launchpad is not a particularly big project. But it is actively used by a small, but dedicated, close-knit community. So, big social media updates, as well as budgetary actions, are not often needed. Unfortunately, this counts as an "inactive project" on the Open Collective platform, and I received an e-mail announcing that we will lose our funds (meagre as they already are) and the project closed if we don't use the Open Collective platform at least once in a while. While I have understanding that they don't want to play piggy bank for any random small project, this unfortunately means that the ML Launchpad way of running the project and the goals Open Collective don't align any more. We will find a different way to manage our financials (tiny as they are, but every Euro counts).

Dear Andreas and ML Launcher users,

I would like to assure you that it is not our intention to close your collective, no matter how small it is, if there is activity going on.
In fact, the email we sent you was only inquiring if your collective was still active because of the prolongued period of apparent inactivity.
It is part of our internal audit procedure and serves to ensure the proper functioning of the platform.

The email also said that to confirm your activity and keep using the platform it was enough to answer to it/post an update about your collective in the following two months.

Of course, if you still wish to leave OCE, we respect your decision.
In case the decision was a result of misunderstanding, or if in the future you wish to reactivate the collective, feel free to contact us and ask for it.

Best regards,
Ivan and the OCE team

Hi Andeas,

Yes sorry for the misunderstanding. We are just running a little internal audit and wanna make sure that collectives are active. We decided that we would contact collectives that have not submitted any expense since one year to make sure that they are still aware they have a budget available to spend. You're obv welcome to stay as long as you want.

Let me know if you have any question.

Kind regards,

Jean-François

Don’t worry, no hard feelings. As I wrote, I feel that our projects are not aligning very well any more. I’m afraid holding that transaction has not helped rebuilding trust. Oh well. I still feel that this is just a bit of a case of things accidentally gone sideways, but my point of alignment stands, so let’s part ways and stay friends. Thank you for the years of providing a platform to the project, and good luck for the future.
