Mothers in Residence

Mothers in Residence is a non-profit association based in Gothenburg, an artist community with expressions around the conditions within the artistic profession through motherhood. It began with an uneasy sensation combining art practise with new motherhood, into finding research on how motherhood affects the brain and investigation on how the cultural roles as well as whether society could adjust to better work with the duality or creative work and motherhood. It turned into a project that received support from the cultural administration of Gothenburg's municipality to start the project up. 
Through this platform, new ideas and collaborations are continuously tested to find practical problem solutions. Such as local residencies and events to create contacts in new networks that can facilitate re-establishment in artistic practice during the early childhood years or after demanding family situations.
THE VISION is to empower each other and ourselves. We push the boundaries within creative professions, i order to create more space so that the cultural world  or self employment is not too narrow to work in. 
Our membership is simple. Anyone can join, but our benefits are for mothers who contribute to the arts. We are a platform that works through the initiatives and ideas of the members and the board that are based on their own experiences.
