This initiative aims to create a series of workshops and events where a person shares an aspect of their culture and teaches skills related to it. The events are designed for small groups. The goal is for the attendees to learn something about a culture, socialise and increase cohesion and multicultural appreciation in the community. The area of focus is Tawa and Porirua. The events are friendly and inclusive.
Multicultural Collective will do these workshops in partnership with other organisations or groups to sort out a venue, registration, promotion and associated costs. The events will range from fully free to a small ticket price to allow for full participation. Our partners are welcomed to promote their group.
Examples of the type of events
- Cooking and craft workshops.
- Workshops to teach art, share literature, music, films or games.
- Language exchange and practice.
- Celebration of ethnic community groups’ important dates.
Impact
This project aims to benefit ethnic and migrant community people who want to share part of their culture with the wider Tawa and Porirua community. It will give them visibility and a sense of belonging as part of a multicultural society. If the culture share is part of an initiative like a community group, project or micro-enterprise, it will allow that initiative to be promoted. The wider will learn about a culture and skill and increase social cohesion with their neighbours.
