End of 2022 Wrap Up!
Published on December 22, 2022 by Jenna L

Happy Winter Solstice!
If you (like us) are on the unceded lands of the Duwamish people, we hope that you are staying warm and staying safe in the snow.

With the end of 2022 approaching, the majority of Mutual Aid Books Members are on break until the new year. We’re eager to rest up for some exciting new things to come in 2023. Just as always, we are incredibly appreciative for the support and solidarity that has been shown to our project over the last year.

Over the past year, we’ve been fortunate enough to distribute thousands of books. Through food distribution collaborations with COVID19 Mutual Aid and Uprooted & Rising Seattle at their monthly pantry; popping up at The Station Coffee Shop; and through partnerships with local groups like the Nuturing Roots, Na’ah Illahee Fund, Pipsqueak, Taking Black Pride, Stop the Sweeps, Surge Reproductive Justice, Creative Justice, and the Black Farmers Collective. We were able to connect with a local high school club to provide copies of a book and we had an amazing time seeing all the community love at the Mutual Aid Fair that took place in the spring and fall. We collaborated with YES Foundation of White Center to provide COMIDA with books for their CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE NIÑX.

Internally, we welcomed new folks into MAB at three new member meetings throughout the year. (If you’re interested in checking out what we do, we’ll be doing another new member meet and greet soon – stay tuned!) We also held a two-part retreat to dream up MAB’s intentions for 2023, including building a consistent tabling presence (seeing y’alls faces is the best part of this!), sharing political education (with a new project coming this winter – did someone whisper book club), and standing in solidarity with systems-impacted folks.

None of this would be possible without y’all. As we look ahead into the new year, we will continue bringing individuals and communities together through mutual support and books. We hope to continue to have you as a partner in this work.

In Solidarity,
Jenna, Alex and everyone in MAB
